What Are Clear Aligners?

Experience a modern, comfortable approach to teeth straightening.
Clear aligners are a nearly invisible, modern solution for straightening teeth. Made from smooth, transparent plastic and custom-fitted, they gradually shift teeth into place. Unlike braces, clear aligners are removable, letting you eat, brush, and floss freely. Every few weeks, you switch to a new set of aligners, keeping progress on track toward a confident, straight smile.
How do clear aligners differ from traditional teeth straightening methods?
- Discreet Appearance: Nearly invisible, allowing you to straighten teeth without noticeable hardware.
- Removable Convenience: Easy to take out for meals, brushing, and flossing.
- Custom Fit: Designed specifically for your teeth for a comfortable, precise fit.
- Fewer Dental Visits: Less frequent adjustments than with traditional braces.
Eat, brush, and floss as usual—no brackets or wires!

Transform Your Smile with Industry-Leading Invisible Aligners

The Procedure
What is the process?
Our experienced dentists will create a bespoke treatment plan based on your personal needs. CAD-CAM technology will then be used to create the clear aligners. There are many clear aligner systems available but Invisalign has treated more than 6 million people worldwide
How does it work?
Like all tooth straightening treatments, it involves constant gentle pressure on your teeth for a period of time that moves them to the final position. We create several aligners, each one moving your teeth a little bit further towards your final goal. Aligners are worn for one week but are removed for eating and drinking making it very easy to fit into your social life. Best of all the aligners are transparent so people won’t know that you are wearing them, unlike fixed wire braces.

Clear Aligner FAQs
Clear aligners are transparent, custom-fitted trays designed to straighten your teeth over time. Made from smooth plastic, they’re nearly invisible and fit snugly over your teeth. Every few weeks, you’ll switch to a new set of aligners, each slightly adjusted to gently move your teeth closer to their ideal position. Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners are removable, making it easy to eat, brush, and floss without restrictions. They’re an effective, convenient solution for correcting misalignments, gaps, and crowding while maintaining a natural look throughout your treatment.
Clear aligners are versatile and can effectively treat a range of alignment issues, including:
- Crowded Teeth: Aligners create space by gently moving teeth into a straighter position.
- Gaps Between Teeth: They can close spaces between teeth for a more even smile.
- Overbite: Aligners can help reduce the overlap of the upper front teeth over the lower teeth.
- Underbite: They can adjust the alignment of the lower teeth to fit better with the upper teeth.
- Crossbite: Clear aligners can correct bite issues where some upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth.
- Open Bite: They can help close the gap between the upper and lower teeth when biting down.
Clear aligners are an effective solution for mild to moderate cases. They provide a discreet and comfortable way to achieve a well-aligned smile.
Clear aligners offer several advantages, including:
- Discreet Appearance: They are virtually invisible, allowing you to straighten your teeth without drawing attention.
- Comfortable: Made from smooth plastic, aligners are gentle on your mouth with no metal brackets or wires.
- Removable: You can easily remove them for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, making it easy to maintain your oral hygiene.
- Convenient: Fewer visits to the dentist are required for adjustments compared to traditional braces.
- Effective: Clear aligners can treat a wide range of alignment issues, such as gaps, crowding, and bite problems.
- Custom-Fit: Each set of aligners is tailored to your teeth, ensuring a comfortable and precise fit throughout the treatment.
- No Food Restrictions: Unlike braces, you can eat whatever you like because you remove the aligners while eating.
These benefits make clear aligners a popular and effective option for achieving a straighter smile.
Invisalign is an incredibly versatile system that can address a wide range of orthodontic concerns. Whether you are dealing with overcrowded teeth, gaps, overbites, underbites, or crossbites, Invisalign can often offer an effective solution. While it is suitable for many cases, some severe orthodontic issues might require traditional braces or additional procedures to achieve optimal results. Your dental professional will assess your condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan to help you achieve a beautiful, harmonious smile.
We will be able to advise you at your consultation and simulate what is possible with Invisalign to fully explain and show your suitability.
This varies massively depending on a number of factors:
- Where your teeth are to start with: If more movement is required this will take more aligners and so more time.
- Your compliance with treatment: Clear aligners heavily dependent on your compliance in wearing the aligners. If you don’t wear them for long enough throughout the day your teeth will not move as swiftly and treatment will take longer.
- How your teeth respond to the treatment: Some people’s teeth are more stubborn than others for a multitude of reasons. In these cases it is often necessary to wear the aligners for slightly longer to allow sufficient time for the teeth to move.
One of the significant advantages of clear aligners is their flexibility when it comes to eating and drinking. Unlike traditional braces that come with dietary restrictions, you can remove your aligners before meals. This means you can continue enjoying all your favourite foods without worrying about damaging the aligners. However, it is essential to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing after every meal and before putting the aligners back in your mouth. Remember that drinking anything other than plain water with the aligners in place might stain or damage them, so it’s best to remove them beforehand.
Clear aligners are designed with your comfort in mind. They are made of smooth, custom-fit plastic, which reduces irritation and minimises discomfort. However, some patients may experience mild discomfort during the initial stages of wearing a new set of aligners. This is completely normal and is a sign that the aligners are effectively moving your teeth to their desired positions. As your mouth adjusts to the aligners, any discomfort typically subsides within a few days. Unlike traditional braces with metal brackets and wires that can cause abrasions or sore spots in the mouth, aligners offer a more pleasant and comfortable orthodontic experience.
